“Game Plan does an excellent job of delivering personalized content to our student-athletes. By streamlining required learning objectives, it frees up more time for us to focus on the primary reason we’re in athletics: supporting the student-athlete.”
Athletic Advisor, Tutor Coordinator and Champs/Life Skills Coordinator
With the help of Game Plan, Tennessee Technological University has been able to efficiently deliver crucial educational content, foster meaningful discussions, and ensure student-athletes have access to essential resources that enhance their overall experience.
Tennessee Tech follows a structured approach to assigning courses, which are carefully selected each fall based on relevance and impact. Key aspects of their assignment process include:
Annual Required Courses: Every student-athlete must complete designated courses each year.
New Student-Athlete Curriculum: Additional courses are assigned to newcomers to help them transition successfully.
Timely Completion: Courses are assigned within the first two weeks of classes and must be completed within the first month of school.
Coaching Support: Coaches play a crucial role in encouraging student-athletes to complete their coursework on time.
Among the vast library of resources offered by Game Plan, Tennessee Tech has found the sexual assault prevention and financial literacy modules to be the most valuable. These topics address critical issues that directly impact student-athletes, equipping them with the knowledge to make informed decisions and navigate challenges effectively.
With the ability to select from a broad range of topics, the Tennessee Tech athletics department ensures that student-athletes receive relevant, timely education that aligns with their needs. The athletic department has also found that Game Plan content serves as an excellent conversation starter, helping student-athletes feel less isolated when dealing with challenging situations.
For Tennessee Tech’s athletic staff, Game Plan has proven to be an indispensable tool in helping them better understand how student-athletes engage with educational content. By reviewing modules before assigning them, staff members can tailor their engagement strategies to fill any knowledge gaps.
Additionally, the flexibility of Game Plan allows Tennessee Tech to incorporate student-athlete feedback into course selection. If student-athletes express interest in a particular topic, staff can easily browse the Game Plan library and assign relevant content, making the learning process more engaging and personalized.
“I found the platform easy to learn and was able to start offering courses right away. It allows us to quickly distribute content to a large group of student-athletes, who can access it anytime that works for them,” said Dr. Bates.
Tennessee Tech University competes in the Ohio Valley Conference and has leveraged Game Plan to enhance their student-athlete experience. Since incorporating Game Plan, Tennessee Tech has completed various topics, including sexual assault prevention, financial literacy, and more, ensuring that their student-athletes are well-equipped both academically and personally for success.
