Before partnering with Game Plan, UMass was looking for a way to save time when delivering career development and mentor programs to their student-athletes. They wanted to be able to deliver personality assessments designed specifically for athletes but hadn’t found alternatives to industry-standard assessments. They were also looking for a platform to startup and manage mentorship programs to connect current student-athletes with alumni.
UMass Athletic’s goal was to deliver part of their career development programming and mentorship initiatives online in order to give their student-athletes more flexibility to participate in their own time. They were also looking for a platform that consolidates eLearning curriculums, assessment instruments, virtual mentorship, and virtual career services into a single platform. Their ultimate goal was to improve student-athlete engagement while giving their staff a way to deliver certain student-athlete development programs at scale.
Since partnering with Game Plan, UMass is able to place a greater focus on career planning early on by delivering athlete-specific personality assessments such as the Student-Athlete Interest Inventory (SAII). Assessments like the SAII help their student-athletes select an optimal major based on personality traits and individual interests. Prospective recruits and parents that visit UMass Athletic appreciate the fact that the athletics department is making investments into preparing student-athletes early on for their life after competitive athletics by offering career planning and mentorship programs.
